So here are 5 helpful styling tips that will assist you in creating a perfectly styled shelf!
Rustic Shelves
When we all eventually move out, we quickly find out that space is at a premium. Whether your in a terraced house or a loft apartment, small spaces are now having to become thought about move than ever. With small living areas & storage hard to find, using your wall to increase space for storage is a great idea!
Open Shelving can completely change the way a room feels. It can bring warmth to a room by creating a rustic/chic feel by surrounding you with all the items that tell your story. Styling a shelf can become a real obsession, constant rearranging & rotating of items can help bring a seasonality to your home without redecorating or completely restyling a room...
Tip 1 : Go Big First 🍔
When Styling your shelves, try thinking first about your statement pieces - whats gonna take up the most room...
A combination of artwork or plants with and small collection of personal items can make for a great balance.
Before placing accessories, take the time to look at the scale of an object to see what fits best in your space. Scale and proportion are what help create a comfortable home and don’t hurt the wallet.
Tip 2 : Add Greenery 🌿
Nothing adds more visual impact to a shelf than a bit of greenery. Just a few plants can wake up an entire space, adding texture to your shelves and a pop of colour to your room.
🌴 String of Nickels - This plant doesn't need constant coddling--but it does need tons of light! Water occasionally, but don't drown it. Learn More
🌱 English Ivy - These common indoor hanging plants prefer moderate sunlight and do well next to a window but they will adapt to slightly shadier conditions, too. Let the soil dry completely in between waterings. Learn More
Look for plants with a visual appeal like fresh cut blooms, or an edgy succulent. Fresh flowers also smell lovely, which is always a plus.
Tip 3 : Display Books & Magazines 📖
If you like to do any of your reading offline, you know how quickly books and magazines stack up. But that doesn't mean they have to become clutter. Use your favourite reads as display pieces for shelving that looks effortlessly put together.
If you're looking for a storage solution as well as a design idea, try displaying your books vertically in tight groups and anchoring them with bookends.
Tip 4 : Show people what you love!!! 💘
The most important thing really is to display the pieces that you love most. Nothing is better than filling your shelves with the things that are important to you.
Show off treasures brought back from recent travels, display your accomplishments, and finish it off with a bunch of things that you just plain like that you want to show off.
Home is where we tell our stories through the things that we choose to surround ourselves with. If the items on your shelves speak to you, pique your interests and recall your experiences, then they create a space that is truly your own and that you’ll be that much happier living in.
Tip 5 : Add Accessories in layers 🍾
Think of accessories as decorations on a cake. Large accessories should be placed first and sparingly, with medium- and small-sized accessories filling in and adding balance where needed.
Several small accessories can give the "feel" of a large item when grouped, but don’t forget to leave some breathing room.
Not every nook and cranny in a room needs to be filled with decor.
